Starting January 5th, 2009, a new type of after school program will be starting at R.C.H.S. The program will be designed to provide for students who need one-on-one time with teachers in order to bring their test scores up in reading and math. No other subject areas will be featured.
The reason this new program will only deal with reading and math is that these two areas are the most crucial for students, and reading and math skills effect how well students do in other subjects at school. "We struggle more with our math and reading than anything else," said Mrs. Bustle, who is going to be helping with students during the program.
The program is not a part of the E.S.S. after school tutoring that was cut due to budget problems this year. "E.S.S. works with students on their homework and make-up work," Mrs. Bustle said. "This program is specifically meant to help students with their test scores."
"We wish that we could have everyone who needs help stay with us, but since this program is funded by a specific grant from Gear Up we can only handle a smaller number of students," Bustle said.
The program will be in session every Monday during January and February.
Students will be invited by the school if they need to consider the program for extra help. However, if you feel like you need the one-on-one time in a subject you’re struggling in, you can see Mrs. Bustle and ask her about attending.
